FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS about the ReCODE monthly program
Why am I being asked to sign a one-year contract before I meet my doctor?
Appropriately matching patients and physicians is a part of the service we provide. During our intake procedure, we will do our best to access your unique needs and connect you with the best-trained physician to meet your needs.
What if there are no physicians near me?
We will work hard to find an appropriate trained physician as close as possible to you. If there are none, we will help you to establish a Telemedicine connection with one of our specially trained practitioners. It may be necessary for you to travel to the practitioner for the first session, depending on your local state laws.
Can I learn about the fee my physician charges before committing?
Your initial appointment will be several hours in length. Unfortunately, there is little uniformity in our practitioners’ fee structures due to varying specialties and geographic regions. We can reach out to your physician before making the connection to provide you an estimate for the first appointment before you sign the contract. Keep in mind that the first appointment is typically the longest (two to three hours). Follow-ups are usually much shorter in length and therefore less expensive.
How often will I see my physician?
This depends on the complexity of your protocol. Prevention patients may need to be seen only two or three times a year. Depending on each person’s individual needs, visits are typically one to three months apart. Complex cases may need to be seen more often.
How often will labs be run?
Your ReCODE practitioner will need a baseline ReCODE Report to accurately estimate. Your ReCODE practitioner may recommend additional testing based upon what your ReCODE Report has uncovered, or to reassess after treatment has been started. Typically, once your unique protocol is well-established and followed (this can take about one year), your practitioner will likely wait three to four months before retesting. Ultimately, retesting will be at your practitioner’s discretion.
What is a ReCODE Report or Cognoscopy?
A ReCODE Report™ is a highly individualized evaluation of your cognitive health—an assessment based on lab results ordered by your ReCODE practitioner, or the panel provided by our lab affiliate for the Initial labs for the ReCODE Report (if labs are purchased directly through Apollo Health. A ReCODE Report is what Dr. Dale Bredesen sometimes refers to as a “cognoscopy.”
The ReCODE Report is a reference for ReCODE participants and their ReCODE practitioners. We highly recommend consulting a ReCODE practitioner to review and interpret your report. ReCODE Reports are accessible through your app.apollohealthco.com/logins/new account three (3) days after they’re finalized by your ReCODE Practitioner (if labs are ordered through a practitioner and results are manually entered into the software [by a ReCODE practitioner]), or 10 to 15 business days after your blood draw for the Initial labs for your ReCODE Report (for labs purchased through Apollo Health). ReCODE Reports may be viewed online, downloaded in PDF file format and printed from your home computer.
How is the ReCODE Report generated?
The ReCODE Report is generated from a specific set of 150+ factors, including labs and genetic testing curated by Dr. Bredesen. Once results are submitted, a personalized report is generated, providing a snapshot of the contributing factors in the participant’s cognitive decline—or risk factors that might lead to cognitive decline for those in the prevention program. The goal is not simply to normalize metabolic parameters—but optimize them. The results of the ReCODE Report highlight the ReCODE participant’s primary areas of concern and suggests how to specifically address each contributing factor.
ReCODE Reports are the essential component to the prevention or reversal of Alzheimer's Disease using The Bredesen Protocol. The proprietary algorithm used to generate ReCODE Reports is a product of Dr. Bredesen’s 30 years of research. To compile and calculate ReCODE results by hand takes Dr. Bredesen several hours. The algorithm automates this process and makes the technology available to a global network of trained ReCODE practitioners.
Benefits of a ReCODE Report
- Analysis of Participant Lab/Documentation data produces an organized list of what may be causing cognitive decline (in order of most concern, by subtype).
- If a particular subtype has been identified, treatment recommendations in line with this subtype are included in the ReCODE Report—including recommendations for: hormone support, supplements, reading list, nutritional guidelines, list of additional labs/documentation to consider for follow-up ReCODE Reports to track progress, plus a color-coded Raw Results Page that indicates which values are optimal, suboptimal, abnormal. This color-coding makes it easy to see what needs to be worked on to achieve optimal target ranges for The Bredesen Protocol*.
- Running subsequent ReCODE Reports helps the participant track progress over time—and the Report offers treatment recommendations based on the analysis of the participant’s data using the algorithm for The Bredesen Protocol. We are creator-supported, and Dr. Bredesen does offer consults to ReCODE practitioners. By providing this data, Dr. Bredesen can offer his recommendation on a specific case. Dr. Bredesen does not see patients directly.
*All advice recommended in the ReCODE Report should be followed under the guidance and approval of a Physician. Certain underlying conditions or those on certain medications may need additional consideration. Please follow the guidance and approval of a Physician when implementing the recommendations offered in the ReCODE Report.
What is the estimated cost of labs for a ReCODE Report?
This is highly individualized. For prevention patients (with no symptoms), a trained physician might typically run an abbreviated panel. For others, who are showing some signs of toxicity (or MCI), their practitioner may need to run a more extensive test panel.
We recommend asking your ReCODE practitioner to order or organize lab testing, if you live outside the United States.
In the United States, ReCODE account holders have 2 options:
- Order the labs directly though Apollo Health for $945*.
- Ask your ReCODE practitioner to order labs as “patient pay” and go directly to your nearest LabCorp or Quest, rather than running the tests through your practitioner’s office, which may be more costly. Ask questions and comparison shop. Other discount options include Walk In Lab (www.walkinlab.com).
- Many participants report that most of these labs are covered by health insurance, depending upon your policy. There are also self-pay discounts for the labs that are not covered by insurance. Ask for an estimate before you have your labs drawn. Out-of-pocket expenses related to lab panels are directly correlated to the type of health insurance you possess and your applicable deductibles. Commercial (Non-Medicare) plans tend to cover more of the labs ordered versus Medicare based plans.
*Due to regulatory restrictions, a mobile blood draw option is not available in the following seven states: Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, California, Alaska, Hawaii, or Maryland. Individuals from these states will need to purchase a scheduled walk-in blood draw which cost ReCODE subscribers $780.
‡Follow-up testing is recommended every six months to track progress under the ReCODE program.
Why is there a monthly recurring fee?
The monthly recurring fee covers the cost of unlimited ReCODE Reports. As your symptoms change or Dr. Bredesen has a new breakthrough in the lab, running your numbers through the constantly updated algorithm may change your treatment plan and better help you catch new or emerging triggers early. We also provide ongoing support through our monthly “Town Hall” videos with Dr. Bredesen, online dietary and nutrition information and support, a subscription to BrainHQ for scientifically proven and tested, online brain-training exercises. Making multiple lifestyle changes at once is often difficult, especially at the beginning. We provide the tools and information you need for success—and will be adding even more features and support content in the upcoming months.
Could I run the same tests without ReCODE?
Sure, but it’s a gamble. It takes Dr. Dale Bredesen two to three hours to calculate his scientific protocol algorithm by hand—working with participants’ lab results as raw data to process into ReCODE Reports—which is why he developed the ReCODE Report software program to streamline this process and make The Bredesen Protocol available to trained ReCODE practitioners. Without your ReCODE practitioner’s access to run your ReCODE Report, your physician would simply be guessing at your contributing factors based on isolated, individual lab results, and be making treatment recommendations without the benefit of the comprehensive evaluation offered by RECODE Report. You and your physician would also be missing out on Dr. Bredesen’s ongoing guidance, monthly webinars, his new scientific breakthroughs and, most of all, his algorithm for The Bredesen Protocol.
What’s the estimated cost of supplements per month?
Some participants report that the cost of supplements can range from $150 to $450 per month. Supplement programs are determined by the results of your personalized ReCODE Report and your practitioner’s recommendations—which is why an “average” cost is difficult to predict with accuracy until your doctor’s visit.

How do I know if I’m a good candidate for this program?
Our intake staff cannot determine your candidacy for The Bredesen Protocol, except in the most general context. Only a ReCODE Report, based on your specific test results, can reveal to you and your physician your exact Alzheimer's Disease risk factors, and provide information about a direction for treatment. Your physician is the final and sole authority in this regard. Most participants, and their caregivers, have a strong sense that there is "something wrong," and there is frequently a family history or other indicators of the early stages of this disease.
As a prevention participant, can I work with my current physician?
You can work with your current physician (medical degree) to order all the labs (if you can talk your current physician into this). You’ll need to find a trained ReCODE “Specialist” (RN, PA, DC...not a health coach) to work via telemedicine with your current physician (medical degree) to explain how the protocol works, the specific labs that are needed, and to generate your ReCODE Report. Once you have signed up for a ReCODE monthly account, please search the practitioner locator map and select “Telemedicine,” available via “Find a Practitioner.”
